Turikina Truwala / Mountain Waterfall
Getting There
Bus, walk, ride a bike or drive your car to the start of the track near the silos at the Cascade Brewery.
This experience is the best of both worlds, bushwalking and brewery! Start the walk at the Cascade Brewery next to the Hobart Rivulet and walk up the Cascade Track. The vegetation along this track is quite diverse from open forest to fern-filled gullies. Keep your eyes open for wildlife, there are numerous wallaby runways that cross the track. A lovely arched stone bridge has been built at the first creek crossing to commemorate Peter Degraves, the founder of Cascade Brewery.
At the end of the Cascade Track cross over Main Fire Trail and head up the Myrtle Gully Track. This is a beautiful trail to Turikina Truwala / Myrtle Gully Falls climbs steadily and passes through lush Tasmanian rainforest rich with ferns, wildlife and diverse flora. Parts of the track can be muddy due to frequent foot traffic, so it is important to stay on established paths to help protect the surrounding environment. The trail continues to Myrtle Gully Falls, also named Mountain Waterfall or Oakes Falls. Named Turikina Truwala in the official Tasmanian Aboriginal language palawa kani.
This track provides a link to the network of tracks and fire trails in Wellington Park but it is also a good option for a walk in the bush close to the city. At the end of the track you can retrace your steps or continue up Kunanyi / Mount Wellington via the Myrtle Gully Track.
