Track closure notice
Work has started on the final stage of the Great Short Walk Rejuvenation Project, with track builders turning their attention to the Pinnacle Track, which will be closed to the public until mid winter. The Springs will remain the ideal starting point for most walks on the mountain. Alternative routes to the summit while Pinnacle Track is closed can be found on the City of Hobart website. Access to the Ice House Track will not be available from the old hotel site during helicopter operations.
Expansive views on a clear day are the reward for this climb to the summit of kunanyi / Mount Wellington. The upper section of this walk is very exposed – choose good weather and bring warm, waterproof clothing.
The track from The Springs ascends steadily through mountain forest with views of the Organ Pipes, across the city and beyond. After turning onto the aptly named Zig Zag Track the climb becomes steeper. Views of the summit tower draw you onward, whilst the views below you provide a good excuse to stop and catch your breath!
On the plateau the track levels out and the summit shelter provides a great spot to escape the wind and enjoy panoramic views.

Due to significant fauna values and the drinking water catchment area in Wellington Park, dogs are prohibited from walking this track.
Snowfalls can occur in Wellington Park at any time of the year. The track can be slippery when covered in snow and ice. Rocks may fall from the Organ Pipes.
