Description
This short walk from the summit of kunanyi / Mount Wellington across the plateau to a lookout will reward you with great views and a taste of Tasmania’s alpine environment.
After layering up warmly (it is almost always cold and windy up here!) follow the Zig Zag Track to the lookout. The track meanders through a mosaic of low growing alpine plants interspersed with small pools, many of which freeze solid in winter. From the lookout on a clear day there are spectacular views across south-eastern Tasmania including Hobart and the Derwent estuary, the Tasman Peninsula, Bruny Island and the Channel area.
