Fern Tree to Neika
Getting There
Take a bus or drive your car to the suburb of Fern Tree in Hobart.
A great option when you want to feel immersed in the bush but prefer an easy, wide and level track. This shaded pathway is popular with walkers, dog walkers and cyclists. For many Fern Tree and Neika residents, it also serves as a convenient route to the local shop—a pleasant alternative to a suburban footpath.
Towering tree ferns, clear running creeks and giant eucalypts line this peaceful walk. Along the way, you can also pause to learn about the history of the area, including the historic Mountain Water Supply System, which is was the initiation of the Pipeline Track. Around the midpoint, consider stopping at the Wishing Well and making a wish. In spring, the rhododendrons in nearby gardens add a vibrant splash of colour.
This section is also perfect for an easy gravel or mountain bike ride between Fern Tree and Neika, making it an excellent introduction to off-road cycling.
Returning back to Fern Tree you are rewarded at the end of this walk with a BBQ and playground for the kids at Fern Tree Park or a visit to the Fern Tree Tavern for lunch or dinner by the open fire.
